Just kidding! April Fool's! I really have nothing good to say :) Only one kid attempted to play a trick on me today, unless the school was kidding when they announced that prom tickets were $70...outrageous. The prankster said to me, "You have a rip in your pants" and then I awkwardly laughed and we backed away from each other slowly as to not startle the other, similar to dogs. After getting pranked by gmail (google likes to play April Fool's jokes, they're pretty cute) I decided to look up the best April Fool's jokes. I found this list online of the Top 100 April Fool's Day Hoaxes of All Time. If you have time you can read them all, but here is a list of some of my favorites:
In 1957 the respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in. Many called the BBC wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. To this the BBC diplomatically replied that they should "place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best."
In 1996 the Taco Bell Corporation announced that it had bought the Liberty Bell and was renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. Hundreds of outraged citizens called the National Historic Park in Philadelphia where the bell was housed to express their anger. Their nerves were only calmed when Taco Bell revealed, a few hours later, that it was all a practical joke. The best line of the day came when White House press secretary Mike McCurry was asked about the sale. Thinking on his feet, he responded that the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold. It would now be known as the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.Ok, this next one is funny because I distinctly remember hearing this one twice and believing it, first in the car on the way to school when I was about 10. I don't remember if it was April Fool's day or not. The second time was my freshman year in Earth Science. My earth science teacher taught it and definitely thought it was true. I didn't know it was fake until I read this. I'll have to go see him tomorrow about this....
On April 1, 1998 the homepage of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced some startling news: the prestigious university was to be sold to Walt Disney Co. for $6.9 billion. A photograph of the university's famous dome outfitted with a pair of mouse ears accompanied the news. The press release explained that the university was to be dismantled and transported to Orlando where new schools would be added to the campus including the School of Imagineering, the Scrooge McDuck School of Management, and the Donald Duck Department of Linguistics. The fact that the announcement appeared on MIT's homepage added official credibility to it. But in fact, the announcement was the work of students who had hacked into the school's central server and replaced the school's real web page with a phony one.Ok, that's about all that I feel like posting. You can go to the site to read more, there are some really good ones like Big Ben going digital, etc. I have an excrutiatingly large pimple on the side of my mouth. It's taking over my face like some sort of monster. That, unfortunately, is no joke. Many people asked me about it to see if it was real. It's probably a result of the Kefir. Also, it's 63 degrees out. But that's probably an April Fool's joke too because it's going to go back to being like 30's again and it snowed this weekend. "I bet you THOUGHT you were going to have summer this year. Ha, ha! April Fool's!" Stupid mother nature....
